MINI extended warranty guide

MINI car in for a service

MINI's UK manufacturer warranty covers new cars for 3 years with unlimited mileage, including roadside assistance for the full period. Since MINI is part of the BMW Group, its warranty structure closely mirrors BMW's — including EV/PHEV battery terms and even the same underwriter for its own official extended warranty.

How long does the MINI manufacturer warranty last?

Every new MINI comes with a 3-year warranty with unlimited mileage, confirmed directly on MINI's own UK site, including MINI Roadside Assistance for the same period.

MINI Approved Used cars come with a minimum of 12 months' cover for the battery, exhaust system, and other components against manufacturing defects, backed directly by MINI rather than a third-party insurer, plus roadside assistance. "Young Used" MINIs (under 2 years old, under 20,000 miles) bought direct from BMW (UK) Ltd get an upgraded 2 years of unlimited mileage warranty and 2 years of roadside assistance instead.

Anti-corrosion cover runs for 12 years, covering perforation of body panels caused by rust from inside the metal — not external damage like stone chips or accident damage.

Electric and plug-in hybrid models: MINI's fully electric models get an 8-year high-voltage battery warranty from first registration, covering both manufacturing defects and excessive capacity loss (guaranteeing at least 70% of original capacity). Plug-in hybrid models get a shorter battery warranty — 6 years or 62,000 miles.

WORTH KNOWING

MINI's own official extended warranty, "MINI Insured Warranty," is underwritten by AWP P&C S.A. and administered by AWP Assistance UK Ltd — the exact same underwriter and administrator behind BMW's own "BMW Insured Warranty." This isn't a coincidence: MINI is part of the BMW Group, and the two brands share the same extended warranty infrastructure. See our BMW extended warranty guide for the equivalent BMW structure.

MINI's own Insured Warranty

MINI sells its own extended warranty directly, called MINI Insured Warranty, with three levels — the same structure as BMW's equivalent product:

  • Comprehensive — the highest level, covering most mechanical and electrical parts, including wear-and-tear degradation on specific components up to 100,000 miles. Not available once the car has passed 100,000 miles.
  • Named Component — covers a wide range of components, also limited to vehicles under 100,000 miles.
  • DriveLine — the most basic tier, available regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage.

The maximum claim limit is the purchase price paid for the vehicle (including VAT). You can choose to add an excess to lower the cost of your premium, and MINI Roadside Assistance can be added as an optional extra.
