- Warrantywise Reliability Index 2026 — based on real-world repair data (around 1.6 million data points), not opinion. Measures actual repair frequency and cost, not just owner sentiment.
- What Car? Reliability Survey — 32,493 owners surveyed on 227 models, weighted by repair cost and how long the car was off the road, not just fault frequency.
- Honest John Satisfaction Index — reader-submitted data covering both reliability and overall ownership satisfaction.
- Which? car survey — 63,334 owners reporting on 72,470 cars, covering reliability across three age bands (0-4, 5-9, and 10-15 years).

According to the Warrantywise 2026 Reliability Index, the top four most reliable used cars by score were:
- Toyota Yaris — 89.2/100
- Kia Picanto — 86.8/100
- Toyota Aygo — 83.8/100
- Toyota RAV4 — 79.9/100
At the other end, the lowest-scoring models in the same index were the Land Rover Discovery (17.2), BMW 7 Series (18.7), Mercedes-Benz S-Class (19.2), and Audi A7 (19.2) — all premium, larger vehicles.

A low reliability score doesn't necessarily mean a bad car — Warrantywise's own data notes that many lower-scoring vehicles are popular premium models, and that regular servicing and how a car is used play a significant role in real-world reliability, independent of the model itself.
What independent owner surveys show
Separately from Warrantywise's repair data, the 2025 What Car? Reliability Survey found the Hyundai i10 achieved a 100% reliability rating — one of only four cars to do so, meaning no owners reported any fault at all in the previous 24 months. Honda topped What Car?'s overall brand rankings.
In the Honest John Satisfaction Index, the Lexus NX was the highest-rated individual model at 98.06%, and Lexus was the top-rated brand overall — also topping Auto Trader's Drivers' Choice Most Reliable Brand award for four consecutive years.
The Which? car survey (63,334 owners, 72,470 cars) found 19 models achieved a full five-star reliability rating in the 0-4 year age group, while 12 models scored just one star in the same age band.

A more reliable car statistically needs fewer repairs — but "statistically fewer" isn't the same as "none," and every survey here still shows real repair costs even for the most reliable models.
