How long does the Nissan manufacturer warranty last?
Every new Nissan comes with a 3-year or 60,000-mile Pan-European warranty, confirmed directly on Nissan's own UK site, covering the same electrical and mechanical faults whether you buy a petrol car, an EV, or a commercial vehicle. Roadside assistance (provided by the RAC) is included for the full length of the manufacturer warranty.
Service Activated Warranty: on the All-New Nissan Micra, All-New Nissan Leaf, and New Ariya (MY26), servicing your car with Nissan can unlock up to an additional 3 years or 100,000 miles of warranty on top of the standard cover — potentially up to 6 years total.
Electric vehicle battery cover: Nissan's EV battery state of health guarantee protects against capacity loss (defined as dropping below 9 out of 12 bars on the in-vehicle capacity gauge) for 8 years or 100,000 miles. This differs for older models: pre-MY22 LEAF vehicles get a shorter 5-year/60,000-mile guarantee instead, and LEAF Flex customers (on a battery lease) have the guarantee apply for the duration of their lease rather than a fixed term.

The Service Activated Warranty extension is specific to the Micra, Leaf, and new Ariya, and depends on servicing with Nissan — it isn't automatic or available on every model. Check your specific model's eligibility before assuming you'll qualify.
What Nissan's warranty doesn't cover
Nissan's warranty excludes wear-and-tear items and consumables from full parts cover — for example, engine oil and spark plugs, coolant, gearbox oil, power steering fluid, and brake discs, pads, drums, shoes, and fluid are excluded even though the systems they belong to are otherwise covered. Air conditioning re-charge is excluded unless it's part of a covered warranty repair. Damage from accidents, misuse, or neglect isn't covered.
Nissan's own Extended Warranty
Nissan lets you extend your warranty for a longer period or specific mileage, and — unusually — you can do this even if your original warranty has already expired, provided your vehicle is under 10 years old and has covered no more than 100,000 miles. A Nissan dealer inspection is required before the extended cover starts either way. Repairs are carried out by Nissan-trained technicians using genuine, approved parts.
Keeping your warranty valid
Nissan requires the car to be maintained according to its recommended service schedule to keep the warranty valid. If you sell your Nissan privately while the warranty is still active, it can transfer to the new owner, who needs to notify Nissan's customer service within 30 days of the purchase to register the transfer.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a Nissan warranty in the UK?
3 years or 60,000 miles as standard, with the Service Activated Warranty offering up to a further 3 years/100,000 miles on the Micra, Leaf, and new Ariya if serviced with Nissan.
Can I buy a Nissan extended warranty after my original one has expired?
Yes — unlike some manufacturers, Nissan allows this, provided the car is under 10 years old with fewer than 100,000 miles, subject to a dealer inspection.
Does every Nissan EV get the same battery warranty?
No. The standard guarantee is 8 years/100,000 miles, but pre-MY22 LEAF models get a shorter 5-year/60,000-mile guarantee, and LEAF Flex (battery lease) customers have cover tied to their lease duration instead.
Is the Nissan warranty transferable if I sell the car?
Yes, if sold privately while still active — the new owner needs to notify Nissan within 30 days of the purchase.
