How long does the Renault manufacturer warranty last?
Renault's current standard warranty, confirmed directly on Renault's own UK site, covers new cars for up to 3 years from first registration: unlimited mileage for the first 24 months, then capped at a total of 60,000 miles (100,000 miles for 100% electric vehicles) or 3 years, whichever comes first. Commercial vehicles follow the same 24-month unlimited-mileage structure, capped at 100,000 miles total. Renault's warranty length has changed more than once in recent years — it moved from 3 years to 4 years, back to 3 years, then to a 5-year/100,000-mile warranty for cars registered from 18 December 2019 onwards, confirmed by Renault's own 2019 press release. The current standard has since reverted to 3 years. Renault's E-Tech electric vehicles get an 8-year/100,000-mile traction battery warranty, on top of the base vehicle warranty, confirmed directly on Renault's UK site.
For hybrid models, Renault's own warranty terms and conditions set out different minimum battery capacity thresholds by type:
- Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV): 8 years or 100,000 miles, covering the battery if capacity falls below 63%
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV): 8 years or 100,000 miles, covering the battery if capacity falls below 77%
The Renault Powertrain Warranty (which applies specifically to HEV and PHEV models) runs for 24 months with no mileage limit, then continues to month 36 or a specified mileage limit, subject to the same terms as the main warranty.
What's not covered
Renault's warranty excludes routine servicing, normal wear and tear (including brake and clutch friction materials, exhausts, wiper blades, and trim), and damage from events outside Renault's control, such as fire, flood, or vandalism — unless the failure is genuinely due to a manufacturing or material defect. Paintwork is covered separately for 3 years for material, manufacturing, or application defects, and anti-corrosion perforation is covered for 12 years, both requiring periodic body inspections in line with the service schedule.
Renault's own Extended Warranty
Renault's official Extended Warranty is available for any vehicle still within its original manufacturer's warranty, and can add up to 4 additional years and 100,000 miles, confirmed on Renault's own UK site.
Keeping your warranty valid
Anti-corrosion inspections must be carried out at the mileages stated on the Warranty & Service Sheet, at least once every two years, and properly documented in the Driver's Handbook to keep that specific warranty valid.
