How long does the MG manufacturer warranty last?

MG's warranty was only 5 years before 1 September 2019 — the 7-year term specifically applies to vehicles registered from that date onwards (with slightly different starting dates for a couple of older models: the MG3 from 2 January 2018, and the MG ZS from 1 September 2017, also qualify for 7 years). MG's anti-perforation warranty covers rust perforation of body panels from the inside out. It runs for 7 years on the newer MG3 (18MY on), MG ZS, ZS EV, MG5 EV, and MG HS, but only 6 years on older models (MG GS, MG6, and pre-18MY MG3). This cover requires an annual inspection by an MG dealer, documented each time, to remain valid — and the dealer may charge for this inspection.
Electric and hybrid battery cover
MG's electric and hybrid models get an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, guaranteeing at least 70% of original capacity, confirmed in MG's own official warranty statement. If the battery's capacity drops below that threshold due to a covered defect, MG will repair it or replace it, with the segment below 70% treated as the excessive loss to be addressed.
What's not covered
Wear-and-tear items (excluding tyres, which are never covered) are only guaranteed for the first 12 months or until the first scheduled main service, whichever comes first — after that, they're treated as normal wear. Racing, rallying, or competitive use of any kind is excluded, as is damage from overloading beyond the vehicle's maximum recommended load, and use of non-MG-approved parts or modifications that alter the vehicle from its original specification.
Keeping your warranty valid through to year 7
Services must be carried out within 1,000 miles or 28 days of the scheduled interval. Importantly, MG's own terms specify that to qualify for warranty cover in years 4 through 7 specifically, the vehicle needs a full and accurate service history, following MG's recommended servicing plan with genuine parts. Using a non-authorised repairer doesn't automatically invalidate the whole warranty, but any fault resulting from that work may not be covered.
