Eligibility criteria vary slightly by source on Best4's own site: AutoSilver is generally described as available for vehicles under 10 years old with under 100,000 miles at the start of cover, with 12/24/36-month term options extending eligibility to vehicles up to 110,000 miles or 12 years old (whichever is greater) at the start of cover. Best4's policies are underwritten by a Malta-based insurer (Bastion Insurance Company Limited) rather than a UK-domiciled one. This doesn't affect the FCA regulation of the policy sold to you in the UK, but it's a detail worth knowing if you're comparing underwriters across providers.
What's covered and excluded
AutoSilver, for example, includes cover for wheel bearings, intake manifold, and coil spring on vehicles up to 6 years old/70,000 miles, plus catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter, and EGR valve cover for mechanical failure. Exclusions across Best4's plans include wear and tear, routine maintenance, bodywork, trim, and consumables like bulbs, brake pads, and tyres.
Claims process
Prior authorisation from Best4 is required before any repair work begins. If you use Best4's approved repairer network, they handle payment directly with the garage. If you use your own garage, it must be VAT-registered, follow Best4's Repairs Procedure, and have labour rates compatible with your warranty schedule (the one exception noted on Best4's site: if a Halfords Autocentre carries out the repair, no additional documentation is required). Once Best4 receives complete claim paperwork, payment is processed within 14 days.
Cancellation and refunds
Every Best4 policy includes a 14-day money-back guarantee — cancel within the first 14 days with no claims made, and you get a full refund. After 14 days, if you haven't made a claim, you can still get a pro-rata refund based on the months remaining, minus a £35 administration fee.
