How long does the Tesla warranty last?
Tesla's UK New Vehicle Limited Warranty is made up of several parts, confirmed directly on Tesla's UK support site (these terms apply to vehicles purchased after 1 January 2024):
- Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty: 4 years or 60,000 miles
- Supplemental Restraint System Limited Warranty (airbags/seatbelts): 5 years or 60,000 miles
- Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty: 8 years, with a mileage limit that varies by model
- Body and Rust Limited Warranty: covers rust perforation from a material or workmanship defect
The Tesla Roadster is excluded from the standard terms and instead carries a 2-year/25,000-mile warranty.
Battery warranty by model: the 8-year battery and drive unit warranty's mileage cap depends on which Tesla you have. Model 3 and Model Y with the standard-range battery are covered to 100,000 miles; long-range and performance variants extend to 120,000 miles; Model S and Model X are covered to 150,000 miles regardless of trim.

Tesla stopped offering its own extended warranty to new UK customers as of 31 December 2023 (it was previously underwritten by Helvetia). If you already had a Tesla extended warranty policy in place before that date, it continues to be supported — but new Tesla buyers in the UK can't purchase one from Tesla directly anymore. A third-party provider is the main route to extended cover.
What Tesla's warranty doesn't cover
Tesla's warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal use. It doesn't cover damage from accidents, misuse, or neglect, or issues caused by third-party vehicle adaptors or chargers. Full exclusions are listed in the limited warranty documentation provided with your vehicle.
Certified Pre-Owned and used Tesla cover
A Tesla Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is covered by whatever remains of the original Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty. Once that expires (or if it's already expired at the point of purchase), Tesla's Used Vehicle Limited Warranty adds a further 1 year or 10,000 miles of cover from the delivery date. The remaining balance of the original Battery and Drive Unit warranty continues to apply on top of this.
