Lexus car in for a service

Lexus vehicles ordered from 1 June 2021 onwards come with a 3-year/60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, extendable to up to 10 years/100,000 miles through Lexus Relax — a free, automatic extension activated every time you service at an official Lexus Centre. Lexus is part of Toyota Motor Corporation, and Lexus Relax works almost identically to Toyota's own Relax scheme.

How long does the Lexus manufacturer warranty last?

Lexus vehicles ordered on or after 1 June 2021 come with a 3-year/60,000-mile manufacturer warranty, confirmed directly in Lexus's own official UK warranty terms.

WORTH KNOWING

This is actually a change in the opposite direction to most manufacturers on this site — Lexus vehicles ordered before 1 June 2021 had a longer 5-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty. When Lexus introduced its new Lexus Relax service-activated system in June 2021, the base manufacturer figure was reduced to 3 years, with the overall achievable cover (up to 10 years/100,000 miles) delivered instead through servicing. If you're looking at an older Lexus, don't assume the current 3-year figure applies — check when it was ordered.

Approved Used Lexus vehicles get a 1-year manufacturer warranty (rather than the full 3 years), after which they become eligible for Lexus Relax once a qualifying service is completed.

Lexus Relax — service-activated extension to 10 years

Once the standard manufacturer warranty ends, Lexus Relax extends cover automatically each time you complete a qualifying service at an official Lexus Centre — 12 months or 10,000 miles at a time (24 months/20,000 miles on models with two-year service intervals) — up to a maximum of 10 years old or 100,000 miles.

This works even on a used Lexus with no prior Lexus service history and no matter how many previous owners it's had — there's no requirement for an unbroken Lexus service record. Cover is applied automatically from the date of the qualifying service, with no forms to sign, and the vehicle's warranty status is tracked centrally against its VIN in Lexus's Central Warranty System, so any official Lexus Centre can confirm it. It's fully transferable if you sell the car.

Lexus is part of Toyota Motor Corporation, and Lexus Relax mirrors Toyota's own Relax scheme (link to /brands/toyota-extended-warranty/) almost exactly, right down to the name.

Hybrid and electric battery cover

Alongside the standard warranty, hybrid models get a separate 5-year/60,000-mile warranty covering hybrid components and the hybrid battery, with a free annual Hybrid Health Check included as part of every Lexus service. Once a vehicle reaches the full 10-year/100,000-mile Lexus Relax ceiling, hybrid battery and component cover is included within that same warranty. After that, cover can be extended independently for up to 15 years with no mileage limit, by continuing to have an annual Hybrid Health Check — closely mirroring the equivalent extension available on Toyota models.

For fully electric Lexus models, the high-voltage battery pack is guaranteed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity for the first 8 years or 100,000 miles — a higher capacity threshold than the 70% figure common across most other manufacturers we've researched. Servicing at a Lexus dealership includes a free battery health check, and having this annually can extend EV battery cover for up to 2 further years, to 10 years in total.

What's not covered

Lexus Relax doesn't cover wear-and-tear items, bodywork, paint, or interior trims and maintenance parts, and any defect that already existed at the time of the qualifying service is excluded. The 12V starter battery used in non-hybrid models is also treated as a wear item and excluded — this is separate from the hybrid/EV high-voltage battery packs, which are covered as described above. Wheel bearings, by contrast, are included within the full 10-year warranty term.

Anti-perforation cover

Lexus guarantees its vehicles against rust perforation caused by manufacturing defects for 12 years, with no mileage limit.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a Lexus warranty in the UK?

3 years/60,000 miles as standard for vehicles ordered from 1 June 2021, extendable via Lexus Relax to up to 10 years/100,000 miles through servicing. Vehicles ordered before that date had a 5-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty instead.

What is Lexus Relax?

A free, automatic service-activated extension, adding 12 months/10,000 miles of cover each time you service at an official Lexus Centre, up to 10 years/100,000 miles total. It works even on used Lexus vehicles with no prior Lexus service history.

Is Lexus Relax the same as Toyota's Relax scheme?

They're separate schemes for separate brands, but structurally and in name they're almost identical — unsurprising, since Lexus is part of Toyota Motor Corporation.

How long is the Lexus hybrid battery warranty?

5 years/60,000 miles as a standalone warranty, with cover extending to 10 years/100,000 miles once folded into the full Lexus Relax term, and a further extension to 15 years available via ongoing Hybrid Health Checks.
